Going Beyond The Amateur Piano Barrier

By Andy Penbram

The basics of beginner piano can be learned in quite a little while. After around two or three classes with an individual piano teacher you should have learned the proper way to find every one of the notes are and as well the proper way to play some basic tunes, maybe even with two hands at the same time. I myself have made a video showing you the easiest way to play the fundamentals of piano in less than ten minutes.

The tricky part comes when you begin to play with both hands as one and you desire to advance further. For people that are learning with a classical piano teacher they may undoubtedly be given one or two of set pieces to learn. First you'll have to learn to play the right hand part by itself. Practicing it again and again again until you can play it with no hesitation. After that you're going to do the same with the part for the left hand. This is a bit more tricky for most people but after a bit it gets a lot easier.

Now the fun begins... Putting it all together. You can compare this to riding a bicycle. One day it'll all just come together but till then, you might find the learning process a little slow.

If you are being taught at home with a home study course or a dvd then you may about definitely be mastering various musical styles or genres at the same time. The basics of piano learning stay the same though. Learning to play easy tunes and chords in the right hand and playing a basic bass line with the left. When it comes to combining the left hand with the right you won't think it as complicated as brushing your hands whilst learning set classical pieces. You will be playing a ton faster by doing this.

To become somewhat more advanced in this style you'll have to incorporate a melody in your right hand with the chords which you may find a little difficult. Or instead often you will be playing just the melody in the right hand and you'll be combining the bass line and the chords in the left. It is the combining of the 2 things in one hand that you are going to find most troublesome of all but you'll find that over time this method will permit you to move on considerably faster and will give you a solid background in piano playing.

Once you have become skilled then you will without doubt outgrow the study course and will then gain from attending regular one on one piano tuition with a personal teacher.
