Why A String Quartet Buffalo NY Is A Good Introduction To Jazz Music

By Jennie Sandoval

People searching for a night of entertainment and culture should think about seeing a string quartet Buffalo NY. Four piece bands are popular within the genre of jazz and certainly seeing a jazz band cannot be over recommended. If you cannot find one that is exclusively stings, try some of the mixed instrumental foursomes which are more commonplace.

Jazz has a long evolutionary history. However, it established itself as a musical form in its own right back in the 1930s. There were popular clubs that specialized in jazz performance. The most legendary is probably the Cotton Club which was located in Harlem, New York. At its peak the club featured some of the biggest names in jazz. Duke Ellington and Count Basie both played there.

Modern quartets normally consist of a string instrument, maybe a double bass or a guitar, a percussionist, some kind of horn such as a trumpet or saxophone and a pianist. A player of any of the instruments may also act as the band leader and may have been responsible for putting the group together. There have been some great names in the history of jazz to lead bands.

Famous double bass players include Ellington himself who is remembered as the flamboyant entertainer often dressed in white. Charles Mingus is another player who has been very influential in the jazz tradition. There are a number of great pianists in the genre. Count Basie was one such who led his orchestra for 50 years. Fats Waller, like his contemporary, Ellington was known for his flamboyance. Other big piano names include Monk and more recently Hancock.

Some of the most iconic names in Jazz history are from the horn playing sections. Louis Armstrong supposedly developed his raspy voice from blowing the trumpet. He is also remembered featuring in film sequences starring Barbara Streisand and Shirley Temple. Two horn players have achieved almost cult status among jazz enthusiast. John Coltrane played the Saxophone and his contemporary, Miles Davis was a trumpet player.

No musical genre is complete without the percussion section and jazz is no exception. The drummers provide the heartbeat of the music. Jazz drummers are among the most skilled in all music and some truly great names have emerged from this section. Art Blakey and Max Roach are just two names worthy of mention.

Vocalists have been very important to the genre of Jazz and it is from this discipline we find some of the most legendary female names that accompany some of the above mentioned musicians to produce some of the most memorable music in the world. Ella Fitzgerald is remembered for her piercing tones capable of breaking a glass. Billy Holiday is remembered for her mournful voice and tragic lyrics that were almost the musical score to the tragic biography that is her life story.

Jazz is a broad musical area but a string quartet Buffalo NY is an excellent introduction. It should provide a good sample to whet your appetite for entirety of the this particular musical style.
