Another Australian Made Film Wows Film Enthusiasts

By Yvonne Davis

A new Aussie film has recently been released that is based upon a very well-known book for young adults. The Tomorrow When the War Began motion picture is based on a book of the same title by successful Australian writer John Marsden and it has done very well since its launch.

John Marsden, an school teacher who now runs his own educational facility in Victoria Australia, found himself crafting books mainly because he was disturbed by the lack of passion his teenage students expressed in reading.

He definitely transformed that situation around when the first book in the series was introduced. In actuality his novel was so highly thought of that it grew to be part of the English syllabus in Australian high schools and has been known to transform a young person who had no interest in reading into an avid reader - at least when it comes to reading his series of the Tomorrow books.

Now the first book from the series has become a motion picture and audiences of all ages happen to be flocking to see it. It's the journey of seven teenagers who camp in the Australian bush and get back from their time away to discover their households deserted and their loved ones vanished.

They then go into town to try to discover what is going on and find out that their town was occupied by an unknown enemy force while they were back on their camping holiday. The group do whatever they can to prevent capture by the enemy troops and choose to devise a plan to lessen the enemy's stronghold on the town.

It's an thrilling adventure film that has you sitting on the edge of your seat in some of the action scenes. The movie reveals just how each character grows and develops within the harsh conditions they discover themselves in. It looks at the anxieties each young adult goes through trying to deal with what's happening to their town and their families, who are being held against their will at the local showground. There are enemy soldiers watching the main streets so they must remain careful not to get themselves shot at.

Filming took place in Australia at a few of the unspoiled wilderness zones of the Hunter Valley and Blue Mountain areas, and the action scenes were filmed mainly at the Fox Studios in Sydney.
