A Variety Of The Best Films From The Incredibly Passionate Actor, Nicholas Cage

By Stuart Phillips

Any time my friends and I get into a discussion of the best actors currently working today, one of the more controversial answers that always seems to come up is Nicholas Cage. I can't pinpoint exactly why I love Nicholas Cage movies so much; I don't think he's the most versatile actor, and the films are rarely spectacular. But that does not stop him from being one of my favorites.

For whatever the reason, here are my personal favorite Nicholas Cage films in recent memory.

I will start out by discussing Lord Of War, a film in which Nicholas Cage plays Yuri Orlov, a Jewish arms dealer that rises from nothing to become a lead supplier of guns in the African wars. Jared Leto also stars in this film and plays a very convincing druggie.

Another great Nicholas Cage film came out recently to limited release. That movie was none other than Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call, New Orleans. Sure, it's a wordy title, but don't let that stop you from seeing this dark film in which Cage plays one of the most corrupt cops I've ever seen.

Another movie of this great actor that I feel the need to mention is Matchstick Men. In this film Nicholas Cage plays a con artist who unexpectedly gets the surprise that he has a teenage daughter, whom he has to take under his wing.

I would be remiss to make a list of Nicholas Cage films without mentioning Con Air. In Con Air, he plays Cameron Poe, a retired marine who is imprisoned for an act of self defense and has to get through John Malkovich of all people, before he can get home to see his daughter for the first time.

One film that I certainly have to mention on this list is the movie that won Nicholas Cage an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and that film was none other than Leaving Las Vegas. This film is categorized as drama/romance, but spans beyond its genre.

Hopefully there are one or more films on this list from this incredibly prolific actor that you have yet to see.
