Used Fender Guitars Buying Guide

By Rand MacCartney

Used fender guitars can represent some of the biggest deals when looking for a high-end guitar for a mid-range price.

Here are 3 different Fender models to guide you as a you look for a discount used guitar.

Option No.1: The Strat

Whether its the space age solos of David Gilmour or the ranuchy blues vibe of Eric Clapton, throwing a Fender Strat over your shoulders might be the quickest way to insant cool cred.

For those desiring a vintage sound, the classic single-coil pick ups of the Fender American Standard is the perfect way to go. New they can get up to over a thousand dollars--but used models can be acquired for sub-600 dollars.

For the more budget-conscious, another option if the Fender Standard Strat. Created in a Fender factory in Mexico, this fine-sounding guitar can generally be found used for about 1-200 dollars.

Still want something cheaper? The Fender Squier Strat is the perfect budget option. These discount guitars made in Asia sound very good--and are ideal for new guitar players.

Option No.2: The Telly

If you're more in the market for a brighter sound than looking at a used telecaster might be the way for you to go. Like the Stratocaster, Tellys come in a variety of model levels--such as the Telecaster Standard and, more expensive, Telecaster American Standard.

But some of the biggest deals can be had with the Fender Telecaster American Deluxe. This high-end model has a Strat-like contoured body-for comfort-but has all the signature bright output of a Fender Telecaster.

Option No.3: Fender Acoustic Guitars

If you're like me, you hear the word Fender and you think of their electric models. But some of most underrated guitars available might just be their high-quality acoustic models.

Models such as the Dg8s or the Fender Starcaster Acoustic guitar not only have great tone and craftsmanship built into them, but they also tend to retain their quality over the long run. (Ideal for buying anything used.)

For those who like one-stop shopping there are also a ton of Fender acoustic guitar kits-whether Starcaster or like-where you can get a tuner, strings, case along with a really excellent guitar.
